The fan-favorite Galaxy Ultra will skip the extra telephoto camera next year, and this will reduce the camera setup to just three lenses. This means the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra might be coming with a single telephoto lens. A leaker gave us a clue about the sensor inside the zoom camera.
This leak is from @phonefuturist, so it can’t be denied right off. This tipster has a background with such predictions and is generally considered a trustworthy source. Anyway, the post on X said that Samsung is testing a 4X superzoom telephoto lens.
The sensor will be a 1/1.9” type outsole. The post didn’t write anything beyond that, but a commenter asked if Samsung would sell it to other brands. The leaker replied in the comment that it’s actually being tested for the S27 Ultra, which is plausible.
This single 1/1.9 4X telephoto lens is the middle ground, by the way. It’s about to replace the ongoing 5X and 3X zoom cameras on the latest Samsung S mobile. This handset had a 5X 1/2.52” type sensor and a 3x 1/3.94” sensor, and both are smaller than the one being tested.
This may not have the optical zoom, but the sensor opening will bring more light to the diodes, and there’s more capture area on the outsole for clarity and detail. We’ll be seeing much better zoom photos on the S27 Ultra, if they actually used that 1/1.9” unit.
Galaxy S27 Ultra won’t just rely on the hardware. They’ll have more software tricks and camera optimizations in place for better output. This newcomer will debut with One UI 9 and Android 17 right off the bat, and there will be a new chip for performance.
We hear Qualcomm has split its flagship chip into two tiers. There will be a vanilla Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and its Pro version. Samsung will probably have the latter on its Galaxy S27 Ultra.
