Galaxy S26 Ultra was their first flagship device with 60W charging. We did see faster top-ups on the Ultra, but they refused to physically increase the battery size. The exact opposite is going to happen next year with the S27 Ultra. The cell gets bigger. The charging remains the same. But here’s the plot twist.

Their S27 Ultra is now built around a 5700mAh battery. Sources have reported the same figure over and over. So there might be some validity to it. Anyway, assuming the battery size is real, and they didn’t upgrade the charging speed at all, the top-ups should technically be slower. This is where things got interesting.
Galaxy S27 Ultra refills the battery faster by 2 to 3% with the proposed 5700mAh cell. It was first reported by an X leaker, and Android Headlines expanded on the leak. The S27 Ultra will hit 100% charge more quickly than last year’s S26 Ultra, and we have two theories as to how this might have happened.

The leaker says it’s all because of battery and charging optimization. If anyone could pull it off through hardware optimization alone, it’s undoubtedly Samsung. Each year they squeeze more screen time out of the same 5000mAh battery, only this time, all the optimization lands on the charging input.

It’s possible that this kind of charging optimization can be brought to older flagships in the S26 or S25 series, but we advise not to get your hopes up at this point. Early rumors about Samsung using a Si/C battery on the S27 Ultra might finally pan out. This would explain the battery upgrade and the faster recharge.
Si/C batteries actually refill faster than normal Li-ion packs. And they hold more capacity in a thinner profile. It’s only a theory, though. Of course, it’s not just the Ultra. Galaxy S27 Pro is also coming, and it seems to have the same 60W charging. We suspect it will have the same battery and charging optimization, since it’s basically a mini Ultra without the S Pen.
