The Galaxy A57 is a long way from debut and it’s already generating buzz on the internet. A new leak points to Samsung testing a fresh Exynos 1680 chip for the phone, suggesting that the 2026 mid-ranger could offer a solid performance leap over its predecessor.

Samsung will be refreshing its A series in 2026, and the Galaxy A56 will inevitably be replaced with the Galaxy A57 next year. While some of the A series devices are said to debut with the same chipsets as last time, the higher-end A57 has been confirmed with a chipset upgrade from Exynos 1580 to Exynos 1680.

A leak from the GalaxyClub gave an early insight into the Exynos 1680 chipset for Galaxy A57. From what we’ve gathered so far, this new SoC is recognized by the model code “S5E8865” and the call sign “Terra.” Specifics about the chip are still unavailable, but you can expect an AMD partnership on the horizon.

Exynos 1680 might use AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture for its dedicated Xclipse 550 GPU. Samsung’s new Exynos 2500 is also based on the same technology as far as the graphics are concerned, and fans might get to test it on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 when it launches in July.

The Exynos 1680 on the new Samsung 5G mobile will not be as powerful as the Exynos 2500, but the RDNA 3.5 architecture should take the chipset’s graphic performance to the next level. This chip is also speculated to bump the CPU performance by 15-20%. It could score around 1.1 to 1.2 million points on AnTuTu, which is a noticeable improvement over Exynos 1580’s unimpressive 900k score on the benchmark.

We are yet to hear the chipset specifications, but if it’s anything like the current Exynos 1580, you are looking at an eight-core setup with a 1+4+3 core configuration. Similar to its predecessor, the new Exynos 1680 will keep using the 4nm process node for its fabrication.

Exynos 1580 was already an exciting release this year, with CPU performance almost as fast as the bleeding-edge Snapdragon 888 chipset from 2020. The upgraded 1680 SoC will take the processing speeds to a whole new level if the rumors are true. Galaxy A56, which debuted with the 1580 chip, already showed how capable this platform can be in real-world use. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the Galaxy A57, as it continues to appear in more leaks and reports ahead of launch.
