OnePlus Nord CE 5G is the Renamed Nord N1 5G; Meet the Next Budget Phone from the Brand

If you have been out of the OnePlus loop, this once-enthusiast brand is undergoing an ‘Oppofication’ of its own. Instead of releasing just a single flagship phone every year, OnePlus now targets most mainstream segments. The first budget OnePlus was introduced with the new Nord series last year. This year, the value lineup is solidified further with a follow-up — meet the OnePlus Nord CE 5G.

Until now, the Popular Nord series features OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100. Their sequel was supposed to be called Nord N1 5G. But since these arbitrary titles don’t have a scheme behind them, OnePlus is starting fresh with the new ‘Nord CE’ designation.

The phone leaker Max Jambor, Twitter handle @MaxJmb, tweeted this alleged last-minute name change. Mr. Jambor also attached a graphic bearing the new OnePlus Nord CE 5G title.

The ‘CE’ branding doesn’t roll off the tongue when it’s joined by a number to identify the generation (‘OnePlus Nord CE 5G’ is a bit of a mouthful already.) To speculate what it means for future Nord phones, The brand might have to switch the naming up, once again. Otherwise a valuable addition to the Oneplus price list.

No specification details, other than the name and 5G connectivity, have surfaced yet. But what's for sure is that OnePlus has plans to break into the budget and mid-range market. We’ll keep you posted as the story develops; in the meantime, here’s what the Nord CE could offer based on last year’s Nord N10.

We might be looking at a full HD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, support for 30W fast charging, a built-in audio jack, 6GB of memory, and at least 128GB of internal storage. Since the N10 featured Qualcomm silicon, the Nord CE 5G could rock a chip from the Snapdragon 700 series.
