Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Leaked Images Showcase an S-pen Housing; Might Launch As Note 22 Ultra!

We’re still months away from the official launch of the next generation of the Galaxy S series. But the first previews of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra have already leaked online. The report features stunning 5K product mockups and a 360° video.

Courtesy of the phone leaker @OnLeaks (also known as Steve Hemmerstoffer) and Digit, the set of images show the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra edition in two different colors. The frame has flat tops and perfectly beveled, slim edges.

It’s painted in matte graphite and purple finishes. The 3.5mm audio jack is still missing, but this Ultra has a dedicated slot for the iconic S pen. Samsung didn't release the Galaxy Note this year and ported the S pen feature over to the S series instead. We got a taste of this pairing with the S21 Ultra when it was sold as an add-on, housed inside the phone’s case.

But the Note might not be history just yet. @OnLeaks notes that Samsung is considering renaming their new Samsung S mobiles in 2022. The S22+ will become S22 Pro. And the S22 Ultra might launch as the Note 22 Ultra.

As confusing as this naming scheme is, the only notable difference in features of a modern Galaxy Note and Galaxy S flagship was the S-pen. A gap that the S22 Ultra will allegedly bridge, so releasing it as a Galaxy Note alongside the S-series makes sense.

The camera plate has been reshaped into an unusual design once again. The camera cluster made of four lenses lives inside a tightly trimmed island. Among others, the S22 Ultra also rocks a periscope-telephoto lens. Flip the phone over to find a standard pin-hole front camera. The screen has a subtle curve to it, and a small, sharp bezel surrounds it.

Mr. Hemmerstoffer specifies a 6.8” OLED panel with a high dynamic refresh rate and ultra-sharp resolution. Staying true to the Ultra name, this S22 edition has a lot of heft to it. It measures 8.9mm without the camera bump that sticks out an extra 1.6mm.

Despite cramming a stylus inside the build, the S22 Ultra maintains its 5000 mAh battery. The next S-series might adopt a faster charging standard. But the power delivery brick will still not ship inside the box.
