Xiaomi 17 series hasn’t even arrived in the global market yet, and we are already hearing reports on the next year’s Xiaomi 18 line. But some context is needed before we get into this leak. The tipster behind this news says the series name might just be a placeholder.
Most of you probably know that the company skipped one whole generation to bring its flagship series up to the level of the iPhone 17 family. They also designed their Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max to mimic their rivals, but with a twist. They got a rear screen, instead of leaving the camera island blank.
Yes, both these newcomers have horizontal camera bars on the rear, but they utilize that space for a secondary rear screen, which has some interesting functionality. Now, the leaker Digital Chat Station has said that the Xiaomi 18 will maintain the status quo and reuse that dual-screen concept next year.
The tipster also said that the second screen’s size may not increase next year, but its features will. We’ll probably get proper usage out of these external displays on Xiaomi 18 Pro series beyond just fidget toys, widgets, and a rear camera viewfinder.
The source threw in one more detail in his Weibo post that has us questioning the lineup’s identity. He said the Xiaomi flagship new model is just a temporary name. Xiaomi already skipped a number while naming its current Xiaomi 17 family, so we won’t be surprised if it does that again.
It’s equally possible that Xiaomi may have run into trouble with Apple for giving its device the same name as their iPhones, which is assumed to be a violation of fair competition rules. But this is all just a speculation, and we’ll know soon if this theory has any merit.
The current Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is seen with a 2.9” rear LTPO AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s up to 3500 nits of brightness here and an HDR10+ rating. The standard Xiaomi 17 Pro keeps the same specs but with a smaller 2.7” AMOLED. The company’s alleged 18 series will have an identical setup, if the leak comes to pass. Keep watching the news for more updates.
