Vivo Y500 is the brand’s first phone with a colossal 8200mAh battery. The newcomer just debuted in China, replacing the Vivo Y400, which, funnily enough, only reached Pakistan this week. The handset is one generation behind in our market, but let’s not get stuck on that. Here’s what makes the new Y500 special.
Vivo labels the new power pack an 8200mAh “Blue Ocean” battery that’s guaranteed to last six long years, owing it all to its semi-solid-state design. The Vivo Y500 brings 90W fast charging for backup and OTG reverse charging to power your accessories.
The battery pack was put through the paces at Vivo Labs to check its operability in variable temperatures. It ran videos for up to 22 hours in 40°C heat and 16.7 hours at -20°C. Extreme temperatures make the battery inefficient, so realistically, the playback time will be much better in day-to-day usage.
This Vivo new 5G model has a respectable 8.23mm thickness, despite the huge 8200mAh cell within. Vivo Y500 has much more to it than a large battery. Looking at its specs, the newcomer fits the upper mid-range class with its IP69 build and Dimensity 7300 SoC.
The screen is AMOLED with very minimal bezels. It’s a 6.77 FHD+ panel with 3840Hz PWM dimming and a 120Hz refresh rate. Diamond Shield Glass and a reinforced design keep it safe from a drop height of 1.7 meters. The screen is 5000 nits bright, giving you decent visibility under the sun.
You’ll find a Dimensity 7300 chipset and 8GB RAM on this device. The max storage it offers is 512GB, although if you want some cheaper options, the phone has at least three other configurations starting at 8/128GB. Of course, it’s powered by Android 15 and Origin OS 5 system.
Vivo Y500 scores nothing but the best with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and stereo speakers in tow. The camera setup could have been improved, though. It’s a single 50MP rear camera with a 2MP portrait assistant. On the front, the selfie shooter’s a paltry 8MP sensor. The newcomer’s starting price is just ~$190 (~PKR 53,000).
