Some Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra units sold to users had a bug, which, up until now, was thought to be a hardware issue. We've seen complaints on the web about a patch of red hue on their new $1300 Galaxy S26 Ultra's screen. But when those complaints hit Samsung's radar, they got to work developing a software fix for it.
Yes, a software fix was all it needed. The blob of red hue is not permanent damage to the phone's screen, apparently. It's not OLED burn-in either or a faulty privacy display design. We do understand why one would reach that conclusion, but the screen goes back to normal with little recalibration.
We believe there's a bug in the code that controls the ambient light sensor. This was said by the company itself a few weeks ago, and they admitted on record that they are working on a fix right now. SamMobile just got an update on their progress.
It seems the company is willing to fix the red patch on your screen, completely free at any Samsung service center you want. No, they don't replace the screen at all. They just fix the bug, and it brings your Samsung latest S mobile back to normal. That's the only way, though.
They did say that an update may soon come to patch this red screen issue, so you won't require a service center visit. There was nothing in terms of an actual release date for the patch, though. We guess there's going to be another one of these announcements when the update actually rolls out.
We'll throw in a few screen grabs of the red screen blob so you can see what the bug does to your screen. By the way, you can check for yourself if your S26 Ultra has this issue by switching off dark mode. Go to any app that has minimal UI and a mostly white background. Don't panic if you see the red patch. It's fixable with an update.
