The red screen issue threw Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra users into panic a short while after it was launched. But there’s some good news at last. Samsung has admitted that this is a real issue. It’s not a hoax. They are trying to come up with a software fix right now.
The fallout began soon after the Galaxy S26 Ultra came out. And some regular users started to notice a red hue or splotching on the screen. Of course, the first thing to take the blame was Privacy Display OLED. And most thought their OLED got a burn-in damage. That’s also understandable and calls for a panic.
Don’t worry if your screen got a red tint. Samsung put out an official statement today that it’s not the hardware. A Samsung exec says the OLED turned red due to a color balance offset in the software when the screen is exposed to strong ambient light.
A software update for the Samsung New S Model is expected to arrive soon and may recalibrate the ambient light sensor. And so the red tint should go away. At least that’s the theory. But that’s all we have, unfortunately. Because Samsung has not yet released this update to the public.
No specific date was given either. But the fix will be out soon enough. It’s not an OLED burn-in issue. So you don’t need to worry. Though if you are in a hurry to get it fixed, Samsung’s service centers will deal with it as long as you didn’t void your warranty somehow.
Some are still concerned that a software fix might not be enough. You are not alone there. This is a valid point, and the sentiment is actually echoed in the community. Because they didn’t explain why the red hue appeared a long while after use. And why did it only show up on a portion of the screen and not the whole display?
