The Xiaomi 12, the phone maker’s newest line of flagships, has made a few headlines over the past few weeks. But since we’re inching closer to the launch, Xiaomi has kicked off the official promotional campaign for the Xiaomi 12. The first social media posters tease the phone’s performance.

It has become a tradition for Xiaomi flagship phones to serve as launchpads for Qualcomm’s latest-and-greatest chip. This year too, the newly-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will make its global debut with the Xiaomi 12 series. The official promo poster was followed by a short clip showcasing Xiaomi’s mass production for the Xiaomi 12.

The manufacturing process starts when an automated machine carefully mounts the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip onto the phone’s motherboard. The Xiaomi 12 motherboard then passes through the optical quality reassurance test before continuing its journey.

Instead of the chips getting a new name every year, the flagship Snapdragon chips will use a single ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen X’ title. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the first to use the new naming scheme. For 2022 flagships, Qualcomm had trimmed the process node from 5nm to 4nm. The jump to 4nm promises 20% better performance and 30% better power saving.

The graphics performance is also advertised to be 30% faster than the Snapdragon 888. The camera processing is more powerful than ever — for instance, night mode integrates at least 30 shots into a single image (instead of 6 as seen on last year’s model.) Expect a top-notch flagship device at a hefty Xiaomi mobile price tag.
