Anticipation for the Galaxy S25 FE has been growing, thanks to an early leak pointing to its selfie camera upgrade and the return of the 50MP primary sensor. But the latest update adds a bit of a twist. New details about the telephoto and ultrawide lens suggest Samsung might be holding back on upgrades, leaving fans with mixed expectations.
According to details from the same source that broke the news about its selfie camera, the telephoto and ultrawide sensors on the Galaxy S25 FE will remain unchanged this year. We’ll be seeing an identical 8 MP 3X telephoto shooter that we last saw on the S24 FE.
Using an 8 MP telephoto lens on a device like Galaxy S25 FE seems out of touch in 2025, but Samsung wants to maintain the status quo more than anything. Using a better sensor might be stepping on Galaxy S25’s toes. That’s why the S25 FE is stuck with the same lens as last year.
At least, this phone still comes with a telephoto, while the S25 Edge, costing way more than FE, has no such lens. Not only would we miss out on a telephoto upgrade, but the ultrawide sensor also seems to remain unchanged on the latest Samsung FE mobile.
Last year, we saw a 12 MP ultrawide sensor assigned to the S24 FE. The same camera will be found on the Galaxy S25 FE’s back as well. If the rumors are true, the company will be banking on software optimizations again to make up for the outdated hardware.
Some areas where we might see improvements are the chipset and performance. As you may know, we saw an Exynos 2400e on the Fan Edition device last time, but the company now wants to upgrade the chip to the standard “Exynos 2400,” meaning a slight upgrade in CPU and GPU performance.
Both are deca-core chips with Xclipse 940 dedicated GPUs, but one has a 3.11 GHz clock speed, and the other tops out at 3.2 GHz. It’s a slight upgrade, but it does suggest a potential enhancement in shutter speed and photo optimization for the cameras. We’ll soon know what other surprises the Galaxy S25 FE has in store for us.
