Samsung Galaxy A22 and Galaxy A22 5G Officially Unveiled; Meet the Cheapest 5G Galaxy Yet

Following an endless string of leaks and rumors, Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy A22 series, featuring the cheapest 5G Samsung phone yet. The Galaxy A22 LTE and A22 5G were announced in press releases all across Europe, along with their prices and specs. Let’s take a look.

The LTE variant of the Galaxy A22 features a 6.4” SuperAMOLED screen that refreshes at 90Hz. It also has a notch bleeding down from the top bezel but peaks at a 720P resolution. The front camera inside this housing is 13MP.

Galaxy A22’s rear camera system is made of four lenses: a 48MP camera with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a pair of 2MP macro and depth sensors.

At its heart, the Galaxy A22 4G has the Helio G80 chip also made by MediaTek. Its build is lighter and slimmer. The Galaxy A22 is powered by a 5000 mAh battery that fast-charges at 15W.

The build includes a side-facing thumbprint reader and comes in mint, black, violet, and white colors. The pricing and availability details are being kept under wraps for now.

Like the host of entry-level 5G phones coming out of China, the A22 5G also runs on the Dimensity 700. It’s an entry-level 5G chip from MediaTek, built on an efficient 7nm process. The platform is combined with 4GB/6GB/8GB of memory and 64GB/128GB storage options — configured based on region. Plus, there’s a slot for storage expansion.

The A22 5G follows in the footsteps of the Galaxy A32 5G that cut corners on the display to accommodate the next-gen connectivity. Its screen is a 6.6” TFT panel with a 1080P resolution. While its viewing angles might be out of place in 2021, the refresh rate peaks at a fluid 90Hz.

The camera system here is weaker than its 4G counterpart. We’re looking at a triple-camera embedded inside a boxy plate painted in an even finish. It features a 48MP wide camera, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a low-res depth-mapping sensor. We strongly suspect that only the Galaxy A22 4G will be launching in Pakistan.

However, its battery, fast-charging specs, fingerprint position, and design are shared with the 4G edition. The same goes for the colorways this A22 offers. The price for the 4G variant has not been officially revealed yet but the 5G variant's base edition is priced at €230 (~ Rs. 43,400.)
