Oppo Reno 16 & 16 Pro Launch Globally with Watered-Down Specs and Familiar Cameras

The Oppo Reno 16 series was announced outside China today. And the new Reno 16 and 16 Pro handsets are making their way to the global markets right now. Our suspicions were on point. They are indeed very different from their Chinese relatives, especially on the performance front. This is everything you need to know.

Oppo Reno 16 Pro

The non-Chinese model actually has worse performance, though it’s a pattern of Oppo’s, so it’s just as expected. The Reno 16 Pro got demoted from 9500s to Dimensity 8550. There’s only one memory trim for this handset, which has 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The battery size is also a bit smaller on the global Reno 16 Pro version, as the newcomer got a 6700mAh Si/C cell. The Chinese model had 7000mAh. The European markets got it even worse as the phone being deployed there only has a 6000mAh size. The charging speeds on both devices tap out at 80W.

Reno 16 Pro obviously gets a better display. The newcomer is supposed to push pixels at a 144Hz smart adaptive refresh rate. The screen size is 6.32”. This is also an AMOLED with an HDR10+ rating. 3600nits is the peak brightness, and the resolution is 1.5K.

There’s a punch hole on the screen where a 50MP ultrawide selfie snapper lives. The rear optics on the Reno 16 Pro are apparently the same as the Chinese version. A 200MP sensor sits under the main lens, next to a 50MP telephoto portrait camera, and then a 50MP ultrawide camera is right next to them.

These two phones are, of course, built around Android 16 Color OS 16 build, and each has safety ratings up to IP69K. There’s only one Reno 16 Pro trim out there at 12/512GB, and its price tag for Europe is locked at €1099 (~PKR 347,000).

Oppo Reno 16

This handset is based on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, so there is some performance disparity between the two phones, and it’s definitely intentional. This vanilla version is supposed to be shipped in either an 8/256GB cut or an 8/512GB trim.

The battery is the same, even at the bottom rank. 6700mAh for most markets, and Europe is getting the short end of the stick with a 6000mAh cell. The Reno 16 will also recharge over an 80W SuperVOOC input, and then there’s an almost similar screen to consider.

Reno 16 does have the exact size 6.32” AMOLED, but it has a slightly slower 120Hz refresh rate. The resolution is kept at 1.5K, and the brightness at 3600nits. There’s the same HDR10+ rating. So the panels are virtually identical on the Pro and non-Pro models.

All cameras used on this device are 50MP. There’s an f/1.8 main outsole, next to an 80mm f/2.8 telephoto 3.5x zoom lens. And then we have a 50MP f/2.0 Ultrawide on the back. We shouldn’t forget the 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide selfie shooter that sits in a punch hole up front.

The same dual speaker setup is found on either phone. Each has an optical fingerprint ID, and WiFi 6 is supported by the non-Pro and Pro alike. The pre-orders have just started in Europe, so buyers haven’t got their hands on these phones yet. Reno 16 has a base cost of €899 (~PKR 284,000).
