There are more than a few upgrades planned for the iPhone 18 Pro series. The devices that are part of this family have been leaking for a while now. So we’ve managed to compile a list of potential upgrades from them. These are all based on credible reports and supply chain tips, by the way.
Under-screen face ID is looking like a real possibility for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. They’ve been building up to it for years, and the plans might finally be in motion, from what the supply chain tells us. Apple will hide the Face ID components behind the screen. Only the selfie camera will be exposed. All this is being done to reduce the size of the notch.
Variable aperture is also something we are looking forward to on the iPhone 18 Pros. These two phones could use 48MP fusion main cameras that will carry some moving components for the first time. Variable aperture lenses adjust the light intake manually by controlling the opening of the lens. These sorts of cameras also have a shallower depth of field.
Samsung had toyed with the hardware variable aperture idea till the Galaxy S10 series, but they abandoned it. Apparently, it’s inefficient when better software can do the same thing. Anyway, Apple has reworked the camera control button to the side of the Apple new iPhone models. You’ll no longer have to worry about accidental swipes.
More battery capacity is always welcome for the flagship phones. The iPhones are way behind the competition in that particular area. They plan to fix it on the 18 Pro, and especially on the Pro Max. The exact figures are unknown, but the leak suggests a decent capacity increase.
The extra capacity will come at a cost, though, as the sources report the iPhone 18 Pro Max being the heaviest model to this day. Its weight is more than 240g, which means it will easily outweigh the current heaviest iPhone 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max.
The battery will last even longer with the next upgrade. At least the Pro and Pro Max are expected to see LTPO+ technology next year. This display tech is way more efficient than the older basic LTPO. Higher refresh rates could also arrive after years of sticking to the same 120Hz.
There’s more. iPhone 18 Pro duo may come with a 2TB memory option, which is the biggest storage we’ve seen thus far. The basic storage will be 256GB as always. Of course, newer Apple A20 silicon is also on the way, but did you know that Apple is also working on an in-house Apple C2 modem for the Pro phones?
The Apple A20 Pro could be their first silicon to reach 2nm, though Samsung will beat them to the punch with its Exynos 2600. Anyway, this Apple A20 Pro chip can increase the raw power by 15%. Energy usage is lowered by 30%, which makes A20 Pro their most efficient SoC.
