The Pova 8 devices are all going official individually this year. The vanilla Tecno Pova 8 debuted today in one of the Asian markets. And it has one unique gimmick, just like last year’s Pova 7. Sadly, there are a bunch of downgrades in the internal hardware that we were less pleased to see.

We’ll first talk about the things they did upgrade on the Pova 8. The battery size is now a much larger 8000mAh. The older version was capped at 6000mAh. TÜV SÜD tested the massive cell and found that it lasts two days on a single charge, and has 2000 cycles until it drops below 80% health.
The charging speed of this battery is 45W. Pova 7 last year copied Nothing and installed a Delta Light interface (104 LEDs) for notifications. Nothing has moved on to LED Matrix display, and surprise, surprise, Tecno has followed suit with its own Alive Matrix display on the Pova 8. Here you go the latest Tecno smartphone prices and find the perfect device that matches your budget and needs.

You’ll find this small secondary LED display in one of the lenses of the Pova 8. There’s only one functioning camera on the back, and that’s a 50MP Sony Lytia 600 (1/1.95”) sensor with 2x in-sensor zoom and an AF lens. Then comes the selfie snapper, which is only 13MP.

The screen is the same as last year, just a tad smaller at 6.76”. That’s IPS display of 1080p FHD+ resolution. And the refresh rate hits 144Hz in some apps. The software was also updated on the Pova 8. It’s now Android 16 out of the box (HiOS 16).

We would’ve much preferred repeated specs, but the company decided to downgrade the Pova 8. There’s no 30W wireless charging on the phone this time. Performance is also weaker because they went down from Dimensity 7300 (4nm) to Dimensity 7100 (6nm). The clock speed is lower, and the iGPU is at least two generations old.
Because the chip is weak and the storage is UFS 2.2, the best Pova 8 can do is 1440p recording, rather than 4K. It does have a 15,000mm² sheet of graphite for heat control. There’s an IP64 rating here. It has dual speakers too, with a fingerprint reader on the side. No 256GB version was announced. Tecno Pova 8 starter 6/128GB trim is actually ~$315 (~PKR 87,000).
