Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Debuts at the Galaxy Unpacked Event; A Fan’s Dream Phone?

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S20 FE at the Unpacked event today, promising a creativity-focused feature set and a more personalized and accessible flagship. It’s much cheaper than the Samsung S20 series that came out in February, capped off by a few upgrades, and one or two corner cuts. The company also announced that they’ll be introducing more Fan Edition flagships in the coming years.

The Samsung S20 FE had been extensively leaked before its release, so there were few surprises. You have a fresh color palette to choose from to best reflect your personality and lifestyle.

It comes in six new and distinctive vibrant colors: Cloud Lavendar, Cloud Mint, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red, Cloud Navy, and Cloud White. Samsung’s familiar ‘Haze’ finish makes the back shimmer when moved.

The cosmetics aside, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE isn’t a glass sandwich like its siblings. Instead, it has a plastic back like the still-recent Note 20. The ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate is back; so is Samsung’s industry-leading SuperAMOLED display but capped at a more standard FHD+ resolution. It’s been flattened around the edges, and the Infinity-O hole has shrunken noticeably -- it’s the smallest yet on any Galaxy flagship.

The 64MP dedicated zoom lens on Galaxy S20 FE has been replaced by an 8MP sensor and paired with a 12MP true ultra-wide camera (given how often manufacturers play fast and loose with the term) and a 12MP main camera. This array supports tracking autofocus, optical image stabilization, and 30x Space Zoom. It’s not as extravagant as the cameras the other three models have, but it’s flagship-grade hardware nonetheless.

All-day intelligent battery life is promised by the 4,500 mAh cell onboard, which charges over 25W. It also has support for wireless and reverse wireless charging, not to mention an IP68 water resistance rating. Samsung also guarantees at least three years of OS and security updates for the S20 FE.
