Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Leak Shows a Hole-punch Design and an Edge-to-Edge Display

The Korean tech giant's second-generation Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 is on the horizon, scheduled for unveiling in August, where it will be joined by the highlight of the event: the Galaxy Note 20 Series. Ahead of the launch, we’ve seen multiple leaks revolving around the Fold 2 — giving us bits and pieces of what the device might look like. Following that thread, the popular phone leaker Ice Universe has published an alleged render of the upcoming folding phone.

Instead of the extended wedge-shaped notch that the original Fold featured, the Fold 2 has a much less intrusive hole punched into its screen to house the front camera. This camera is positioned just offset of the corner and center — which is asymmetric, at least at first. A closer inspection reveals that the hole punch is centered in the right half of the screen, presenting a layout similar to the one S20 has.

The rear-camera occupies the left corner and the secondary front camera will be nestled in the middle, right next to the secondary display (which itself is speculated to cover the entire half of the phone) — leaving no room to fit a camera anywhere on the screen but off-center.

The bezels seem to have been shaved off further, and lopping off the notch makes for a better ‘edge-to-edge’ screen. Because the renders don’t show it, it remains to be seen if Samsung has managed to ‘iron out’ the very visible crease in the Fold and Z Flip with this iteration. At any rate, this design is a far cry from the clunky, buggy build its predecessor had.

Speculation had it that Samsung will ship the Fold 2 with a stylus at insanely high Samsung mobile price, but a recent leak shot down the prediction since the ‘Ultra-Thin Glass’ UTG material that’s being used for this display doesn’t support the S-pen. It packs flagship-grade hardware nonetheless. The display stretches 7.59” corner to corner, delivering a 2213 x 1689 resolution at an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The Fold 2 is shaping up to be a significant improvement over the standard Fold, and we should have more details for you as the launch date inches closer.
