Apple iPhone Air 2 Tipped to be Thinner than First Air Despite Bigger Battery

The thinnest iPhone will get even slimmer next year. The original iPhone Air came with a 5.6mm profile. That was already a record. But the Apple iPhone Air 2 will be even thinner in 2026, according to a new leak. This is everything you need to know.

The leaker said that the iPhone Air 2’s frame is about to shed 0.4 mm of thickness. It’s a small difference on paper. Don’t take this number at face value alone. You will be able to tell the difference in thickness compared to last year’s Air.

It seems Apple is risking the durability of the device by making it 5.2mm. They obviously don’t want another bend gate on their hands, so the frame’s probably made of titanium again. But the most surprising part in all of this is the expected battery upgrade. By the way, if you're planning to switch to iOS, the Apple iPhone Price List offers a useful starting point.

The only reason iPhone Air didn’t take off was its lousy battery. They made the handset so thin that it could only fit a 3,149mAh battery (physical SIM model). The leaker predicts extra capacity on Air 2’s power pack. A higher-density cell will make this possible.

Some had complaints about the single camera on the back. Not sure if that’s going to change, but if they did upgrade the Air 2, another 48MP ultrawide unit will show up on the frame. Of course, you’ll get the usual set of upgrades to put this newcomer in the same league as the iPhone 18 series.

The Air 2’s chip will be the Apple A20 Pro (2nm). There’s possibly a smaller Dynamic Island on the Air 2. The iPhone Air 2 might also inherit the thermal issues since it won’t have much in the way of cooling. And Apple’s custom C2 modem and N2 chip will boost wireless networking. We’ll let you know if we find any other details on the iPhone Air 2. Keep watching the news.
