Vivo X Fold S Leak Uncovers Battery, SoC, and Charging Speed Upgrades

It's only been three months since the launch of Vivo's novelty foldable "X Fold" in April. And tipsters are already gossiping about its upgraded Vivo X Fold S successor. Vivo's latest screen folder will benchmark parallel to Samsung Z Fold 4.

The rumors hint at X Fold S' chipset, battery, and charging speed upgrades over the older X Fold. These tweaks can give this folding phone a massive headstart for the best tablet-to-phone device. Let's see what the leaks have to report about these upgrades.

First on the list is the engine sitting under the hood. We are looking at Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip — an SoC based on a 4nm manufacturing process for minimum battery retention and flagship-level horsepower. It's a significant step up from X Fold's 8 Gen 1 Chip in terms of power-to-performance.

Screen-up time is not a forte when it comes to tablet-to-phone devices. Using a super-efficient chip like the latter is one way to go, but there is still room for improvement by literally scaling up the battery capacity. We'll see a 4,700mAh battery with Vivo's New Fold model, in contrast to 4,600mAh on the earlier X Fold. The difference seems minor but translates to drastic improvement when SoCs like the eight plus Gen 1 come into play.

Battery life is not a mega concern when you have a hefty power brick in your arsenal for a quick top-up. It is another area where Vivo has excelled the foldable. X Fold S from the Vivo flagship line supports an 80W charger speed instead of the 66W used in its forerunner.

Save for the upgrades we discussed here; There are no critical changes in the X Fold S specs sheet. It will inherit the same 8.03" folding screen with a 6.53" cover display. Quad-cam layout (50MP + 48MP + 12MP + 8MP) with Zeiss lens coating. The Same storage-RAM combo and the same footprint as X Fold. The phone will allegedly (reports from Digital Chat Station) get official in September.
