Vivo X Fold and X Note Unveiled; Meet the First Foldable and Note phones from Vivo

Vivo's first foldable, the Vivo X Fold, dropped on schedule yesterday. The phone maker also unveiled the Vivo X Note and Vivo Tab at the launch event. This trio of premium flagship devices launched in China first. But you can expect a global rollout in the coming months. Here's a quick round-up of the Vivo X Fold and Vivo X Note.

Vivo X Fold

The X Fold's form factor is modeled after the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and is, therefore, a direct competitor. It closes in on itself like a book, featuring two displays — one flexible Ultra-thin Glass OLED and the other a tall cover screen.

Specifically, the 8.03" primary screen is a next-gen E5 LTPO panel that operates on a 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The secondary screen is a 6.53" E5 OLED that peaks at 1080P resolution, fill a 21:9 aspect ratio, and has a 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens feature hidden ultrasonic fingerprint readers (not seen in foldables until now.)

The hinge is a cornerstone of any foldable design. It's engineered to withstand 80 foldings a day for ten years. Rheinland tested and certified the Vivo X Fold hinge durability.

It's all powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, 12GB of memory, and 25GB/512GB of storage. The battery size is 4600 mAh, and it's charged at 66W over the wire and 50W wirelessly.

Lastly, Vivo didn't pull any punches on the camera hardware either. We're looking at a cluster of 50MP OIS wide, 48MP ultra-wide, 12MP portrait, and 5x periscope lenses. The front camera has a 16MP sensor behind it. Vivo co-designed the Vivo X Fold cameras with Zeiss (which provides the T* coating for the camera housing.

You can choose from Black, Blue, and Gray colors. The baseline variant starts from 8,999 Yuan (~ Rs. 259,000.)

Vivo X Note

The X Note is also the first Note from Vivo. It features a big 7" screen that curves and blends into the edges. We're looking at an advanced E5 AMOLED display that dynamically adjusts the 120Hz refresh rate. The resolution peaks at an ultra-sharp QHD+, and the brightness hits 1500 nits at max levels. An expansive 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader hides below this screen.

The rear casing rocks a soft leather texture that features stitches running across the length of the X Note. You can pick from blue, black, and silver shades. Four lenses and an LED flash make a cluster in an accent that stretches across the phone's width.

We're looking at a matrix of 50MP OIS, 48MP ultra-wide, 12MP portrait, and 5x periscope-telephoto shooters co-engineered with Zeiss optics. Plus, the front camera is 16MP.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is at the heart of the X Note, powered by 8GB/12GB of memory and 256GB/512GB UFS 3.1 storage. It's backed by a 5,000mAh battery, 80W wired, and 50W wireless charging. Android 12 runs on the Vivo X Note out of the box. The base model is priced at CNY 5,999 (~ Rs. 172,000.)
