Vivo’s bar-style flagship devices are already out for the year 2025, which means the company will now start preparing the next foldable handsets to be released this year. The new model from this category seems to be the Vivo X Fold 4, replacing the older X Fold 3, and we’ve already found key details about this device over the internet.
The name given in today’s report is only a placeholder. There’s a chance that X Fold 4 will be called “X Fold 5” since most Chinese brands tend to avoid “4” in their product titles. Naming aside, Digital Chat Station dropped some helpful hints about this newcomer today on Weibo.
DCS claims that the new Vivo folding phone is due in Q3 2025, sometime between July and September. That’s right around the timeline when Samsung usually debuts its own Galaxy Z Fold series. So, the Korean brand will have some competition at hand.
The leaker didn’t mention the product by name, but it seems the replacement for the vanilla X Fold 3 has an upgraded chip. Vivo released two horizontal folding phones last year and one of them was the Pro. The upper-ranked model had a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the one at the bottom only brought a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was one year old at that time. These tiered specs typically create noticeable Vivo smartphone price gaps in the market.
It seems the leaker’s report only talks about the vanilla X Fold 4, which should receive an SoC upgrade from 8 Gen 2 to Gen 3. The Pro could bump itself up to SD 8 Elite this year. Breaking down other details in DCS’s leak, we learn that the new device might launch with a side-fingerprint ID and wireless charging.
The standard Vivo X Fold 3 was missing wireless charging last time, so this will be a welcome upgrade. The leaker also thinks there will be a periscope telephoto shooter available on the new folding handset. This is another feature X Fold 3 Pro had, but vanilla X3 didn’t.
Prior reports about the same device suggest that it will have a large AMOLED inside with a high refresh rate and a standard medium size screen for the cover. We hear rumors that the X Fold 4 will have three 50MP cameras on the back, an IPX8 rating with a 6000mAh battery under the shell. We still have much to learn about Vivo X Fold 4 and Fold 4 Pro.
