Samsung Galaxy A17 5G Kicks Off Asian Rollout with 6 Years of OS Support

Samsung has brought the Galaxy A17 5G to Taiwan, the second confirmed region after its debut in Ireland. Pre-orders are live this week through Samsung’s app and major retail partners in the country. Two versions, 6/128GB and 8/128GB, will go on sale in late August once early bookings end. Galaxy A17 5G will carry on to more regions in the meantime.

The display runs 6.7” corner to corner. This is a Super AMOLED panel, FHD+ (1080p), with a refresh rate up to 90Hz. Brightness holds up great in sunlight without tipping into battery-drain territory. The 5000mAh battery should see most people through a day and a half, maybe two, if you’re not a heavy user.

Inside, Samsung’s Exynos 1330 does the work. It’s paired with a maximum of 8GB of RAM, depending on the market, and storage can stretch via microSD to 2TB. Android 15 and One UI 7 ship out of the box, backed by a promised six years of updates. That’s unusually long in this bracket, where three years is still common.

Prices place it a touch above the outgoing A16. In Europe, the Samsung budget new model hovers around €239 (~PKR 79,000). The higher ticket brings tangible benefits, including the AMOLED 90Hz panel, IP54 rating for dust and splash protection, and Gorilla Glass Victus up front.

The rear camera gets a 50MP sensor with optical image stabilization, a first in this line. There’s also a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro, though most buyers will rely on the main lens. On the front, a 13 MP camera handles selfies and calls. OIS on the primary means steadier shots during night, not something every mid-range phone can claim.

Color choices are kept simple. Black and blue are confirmed for Taiwan. There's no word on the seasonal or exclusive editions yet. Given how quickly support pages have gone up in other regions, this rollout could widen before the year’s end.

Samsung hasn't revealed where the A17 5G goes next, but we may see the 4G variant come out in a few days. And we can't wait to see that device in Pakistan within the next few months. For now, Taiwanese buyers get a mid-tier 6/128GB phone that goes for roughly €215 (~PKR 71,000).
