Two Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 phones have launched globally today. And they are somewhat different from the Chinese variant. There was no 4G device in the original family. This launch actually introduced both LTE and 5G versions of the Redmi Note 17. Each has a different chipset and modem.
Well, Redmi Note 17 4G is based on a Snapdragon 6S Gen 2, which is the main reason why the modem only supports LTE. This is still a 6nm 2.9GHz platform with plenty of CPU performance for an entry-level device like this. The phone has RAM options from 4GB to 8GB.
Redmi Note 17 5G is built around a 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 silicon, which is a newer 2.3GHz CPU, and it’s wired to either 6GB or 8GB RAM. It should perform better than the old SD 6S Gen 2, though day-to-day may not show as much disparity in CPU or GPU performance.
Anyway, each trim has the same set of specs in every other category. Global Xiaomi latest Redmi mobile and 5G both have the same Si/C 7700mAh battery (vs. 8000mAh on the Chinese version). The charging support is 45W with 22.5W output for reverse wired backup.
Each phone has a 7” AMOLED, so the size is bigger. The weight is also heavier for the same reason. The 5G model hits up to 225 grams on the scale, almost 50g more than the Redmi Note 15. But extra weight does give you more screen real estate and a larger battery.
That 7” AMOLED is 120Hz at 1080p FHD+ resolution. The brightness is 1800nits peak. Gorilla Glass 7i will shield it from damage, and of course, there’s a fingerprint ID right on the screen. Again, 4G and 5G Note 17 versions have the same display.
Each phone has the same camera setup as well, which is based on a single rear 50MP f/1.8 lens and a 16MP selfie shooter. There’s nothing special about the camera. The phone’s body is made of plastic, and it’s only IP65 rated. Hyper OS 3 is built in, and the phone has 6 years of security updates. The base 4/128GB Redmi Note 17 4G is priced at $250 (~PKR 69,000). It jumps to $300 (~PKR 83,000) for the base 6/128GB Redmi Note 17 5G.
