Galaxy A17 5G was unveiled last month. The 4G variant is still in the pipeline, and the launch is expected by the end of this year. We recently found a product listing for Galaxy A17 4G on a Kenyan retail site. It gave away the key specs and renders with the expected price tag. Here’s everything you need to know.
As always, the 4G version looks the same as its 5G counterpart. Even their specs are mostly identical, with one major exception: the chipset. The A17 4G has a Helio G99 at its core, bound with 6GB RAM and at least 128GB storage. This is a more affordable option.
It’s the same chip we saw on the Galaxy A16 last year, so don’t expect any performance gain. That is, of course, if the product listing has accurate details. Since Samsung used the Helio G99 chip on its Galaxy A07 this year, there’s a chance that A17 will provide something better, like a Helio G100 or Helio G200. But that’s just a theory at this point.
We found two of its storage configurations in the early product listing. The latest Samsung 4G mobile could launch in 8/256GB and 6/128GB formats, each with a dedicated microSD slot for extra space. There might be more memory options in between. The trend will be consistent with previous releases.
The camera design has changed, and so has the display. The A17 4G shrinks the bezels while keeping the thick chin and old-fashioned notch at the top. It’s a 6.7” Super AMOLED 90Hz panel, by the way, with 1080p FHD+ resolution. Again, these are the same specs as the 5G model.
The unified camera module has a 50MP main and a 5MP ultrawide shooter on the back. The third lens is for a dedicated 2MP Macro shooter. It’s just as durable as the original 5G model with an IP54 rating and gives users Android 15 x One UI 7 out of the box.
Samsung will likely announce six years of OS and security updates for the A17 4G at launch. We’ll have a 5000mAh battery inside this device, and a 25W wired charging solution for backup. The newcomer’s starting price is said to be KSH 22,999 in Kenya, which translates to $179 or ~PKR 51,000.
