Honor Play 20A is not a China-only device. They’ve actually unveiled the handset globally, and it’s the first of its kind to bring a rear display at a budget price. It’s not the fastest phone around, but Honor is confident that the newcomer will sell with its rear selfie screen gimmick.
They hid the price tag from the launch site. We assume the price will be different per market. But as things stand, it’s hard to ascertain the Honor Play 20A’s price-to-value ratio. Is it cheap enough that a buyer would consider this phone over other options only to get a second screen? You can judge the specs yourself.
This is a phone with a 90Hz refresh rate on a 720p HD+ screen. Again, this is a low-tier device, so there’s an outdated big notch on a 6.9” IPS display. At least this newcomer has smoother visuals and somewhat decent bezels. The chin and notch might still annoy some users, though.
It’s not the front screen that sells the Honor new budget mobile. It’s actually a small screen on the rear camera island next to a 13MP main camera. This will be used for info at a glance. It would show call alerts and music controls. There are also some clock widgets here.
The second screen is actually a visor for the rear camera, so you can use it to take selfies. 13MP camera can output more dynamic and high-fidelity images. They hid the actual selfie shooter from the spec sheet, but it could either be 8MP or 5MP.
Honor gave this handset a 6000mAh battery, which is big enough for a full day of usage. And don’t forget that it actually has to run that rear display as well, so it might drain faster. Honor Play 20A is built around a Helio G81 chip, by the way. That’s just an entry-class chip with weak performance.
They did add a fingerprint ID on the side (doubled as the Power Key). There’s an SD card slot as well, and you can put a 1TB microSD on it. Again, the price has not been revealed. They didn’t say a word about its availability either. Stay tuned for further updates.
