The wide Galaxy Fold is becoming a reality with each passing day. Ice Universe has been posting about this handset on X nonstop. The phone is actually going to be called Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. It has snatched the title from the other sibling. We found in one of his posts that the wide foldable is way lighter than the S26 Ultra and Huawei Pura X Max.
The leak from Ice Universe pegs the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to be a light 201g build. That sounds too good to be true, but we are giving the leaker the benefit of the doubt here. If that is the case, they have already managed to make it lighter than the Galaxy S26 Ultra (214g), and that’s not even a folding device.
Let’s make it fair and compare the Z Fold 8’s weight to something in its own league. Huawei has a phone called the Pura X Max with the same wide folding body, and it weighs 229g. Samsung did pioneer this tech, so it makes sense that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a more effective wide-body folding design than others.
There is one caveat, though. Z Fold 8 is light, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to better ergonomics. This newcomer is still a bit chunkier than the Pura X Max. The Fold 8 is about 4.5mm thick in the unfolded state. The Pura X Max, however, is just a flat 4.2mm (unfolded). By the way, here are the current Samsung smartphone prices for the Pakistani market, featuring both latest mid-rangers and high-end flagships.
Another leak from the same source told us that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be a 4:3 aspect ratio device. And its screen could be a 7.8” folding AMOLED. The outer screen is possibly a 5.4” panel. You’ll notice that the numbers fall really close to the alleged iPhone Ultra.
By the way, even though the wide Z Fold 8 is lighter than the old Z Fold 7, they somehow fit a larger battery on it. The capacity seems to be 4800mAh. And the charging speed could be locked to 45W. The camera situation is a bit precarious with this model.
Samsung did switch to a bigger 200MP main sensor on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 last year, but the Z Fold 8 will stick to a 50MP main camera, because they want to keep a clear separation in the ranks. And we are about to see Samsung take the next necessary step to minimize the screen crease in the next foldable devices. Keep watching the news for updates.
