DXOMARK’s new camera rankings are in, and apparently, the Apple iPhone 18 Pro has the best optical setup behind the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra. Android phones have been unable to knock it off the top spot. But the new iPhone actually came quite close with a 172 camera score.
The best average score given to any phone by DXOMARK is 175. We are talking about the camera category here, not the screen. This score was actually seen on the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra last year around the same time, and no other phone has stolen the top position since.
It seems the iPhone 18 Pro has the second-best phone camera on the planet with 172 points. That’s higher than the iPhone 17 Pro by four points. The older model was dropped to the 5th spot, by the way. It means there are some practical upgrades in the new version.
DXOMARK doesn’t pull the numbers out of thin air. They actually rate specific categories and then take the average. iPhone 18 Pro has the best video score of 176 points. The 18 Pro had 150 points for low-light imaging. That’s also the highest on DXOMARK. But this is where it fell behind. The portrait mode got 155 points. The Pura 80 Ultra pulled 169 points on the same test.
This newcomer also got a 138 score for zoom photos. But the Vivo X300 Ultra gapped the 18 Pro and sits in the lead with a 161 score. But we all know iPhones aren’t really the best zoom shooters.
DXOMARK had remarks on a few issues. Color consistency isn’t the best, with occasional white balance shifts: nothing a patch wouldn’t solve. Long zoom is definitely its weakness. Photo and video previews have different brightness levels. And the Pro still has pretty low-res 48MP sensors, when the current flagship standard is 200MP.
