Xiaomi 16 Series Teased; Hints at Major Shift in Strategy and New Xiaomi 16 Pro Mini

The company’s president has officially teased the Xiaomi 16 series. In a video he shared online, Lu Weibing celebrated the company’s 14th anniversary by blowing out candles on a virtual cake. He then proceeds to talk about the best devices Xiaomi has made over the years, and ends the video by hinting at the subsequent Xiaomi 16 series.

From what we’ve gathered, the company is currently in the final stages of preparations for the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro launch. Both will go official in China right after they get the Redmi Note 15 Pro series debut out of the way this month.

Lu Weibing gives everyone a heads-up before the company starts its pre-launch marketing for the 16 series. He confirms a shift to better product positioning and definition this year, but doesn’t get into the specifics. Translated and interpreted, his comments are directed at the Xiaomi 16 series.

The changes he talks about might be the size adjustments and new flagship chips. There are rumors of a Xiaomi 16 Pro mini, a smaller 6.3” variant stationed right below the 6.8” standard Pro model. This change may have been inspired by Apple’s iPhone Pro and Pro Max.

The new flagship Xiaomi mobiles, Pro Mini and Pro are built around the same flagship chips. If Xiaomi releases these phones in early September, it will have the bragging rights to call them the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 devices. First releases always happen in China, so this promotion will only work in the hometown.

Qualcomm went past the threshold of a 4GHz CPU on the last generation (SD 8 Elite). It gets even better this year. The SD 8 Elite 2 has been reported to have a max 4.6GHz clock speed, which will give the new Xiaomi 16 phones a massive boost in raw performance.

The vanilla Xiaomi 16 remains the same compact self as it has been for generations. It’s safe to assume the group has been expanded to four models, counting the Xiaomi 16 Ultra. The teaser campaign for the series will soon begin. More details will come out shortly. In the meantime, keep watching the news for updates.
