A fresh leak from China suggests that Xiaomi 16 will be the first-ever consumer device with Qualcomm’s powerful new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. While the initial launch is expected to be limited to the Chinese market, the exclusivity may be short-lived. Soon after its debut, we’ll find this device in the global market.
Xiaomi seems to be planning an earlier launch for this newcomer. From what we’ve gathered, the 16 series might come out in September instead of the usual timeframe in October. It would appear that the company wants its Xiaomi 16 device to be the first one with a Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip at its core.
Qualcomm will also release its 8 Elite 2 SoC in September, and if Xiaomi wants to utilize this chip ahead of every other brand, speed is of the essence. Xiaomi will have to debut its device around the same timeline as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 to stay ahead of the curve.
Another piece of news we’re excited about is the phone’s massive battery. The new Xiaomi 5G mobile is allegedly being tested with a 6800mAh cell. Remember that this is a base variant, which usually comes out as a compact phone with a 6.36” display. If Xioami 16 keeps the same screen size, that enormous battery size will be phenomenal.
Rumors suggest that the screen size will likely grow this year for the base variant, but this theory has yet to pan out. The 6800mAh battery will need a strong backup. That’s why the company plans to install a 100W charging kit inside the Xioami 16.
The newcomer has a compact design if history is any indication. But, at the end of the day, it is a flagship phone, so expect this device to carry a top-of-the-line screen and a best-in-class camera setup. As the rumor mill foreshadows, we might find this handset with a 50MP Main camera.
