Vivo isn’t done with the Y600 series, apparently. Today, a new phone joined the lineup out of the blue under the title “Vivo Y600i.” This is definitely a replacement for the older Y500i from January. So we’ll be comparing the newcomer to that model. It has debuted in China at a steep price.
It’s a 5G device. They’ve reused the chip on the Vivo Y600i. It’s built around a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC again, with a 2.4 GHz boost clock and a 4nm design. It’s a modern entry-level chip, and the Y600i packages it with 6GB RAM (LPDDR4X) and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage.
They need to put some more thought into the displays. Vivo has sullied the newcomer again with a boring HD+ LCD. It’s bigger now at 6.87”, but it has a chunky bezel, and the chin doesn’t exactly line up with the rest of its borders. At least it has a 120Hz refresh rate, so that’s something. Its battery has also grown from 7200mAh to a proper 8000mAh Si/C cell. The bigger phone size has its perks. They wired it to a 44W charging kit, by the way. It’s stuck with the same charging input. So the battery would actually refill slower this time.
There was only a six-month gap between the generations. So they didn’t really get a chance to refresh the OS. It will keep Android 16 out of the box and the Origin OS 6 skin. Yes, Origin OS 7 is available right now on the flagships, but no entry-tier version has been released yet.
The phone is drop-safe from a certain height. SGS did its usual tests and gave Y600i a shockproof design rating. And then there’s the CQC IP68 + IP69 rating on the handset. It’s fully waterproof and safe from hot liquid spills like coffee or tea.
The camera’s pretty much the same as before. They did upgrade the selfie camera from 5MP to 8MP on the Y600i. The rear camera is still 50MP with no OIS support. A fingerprint ID sits on the power key, and the WiFi module is dual-band 5GHz. Vivo Y600i has a CNY 1,699 (~PKR 70,000) base price for 6/128GB storage.
