To compete with Xiaomi's new line of Snapdragon-662-powered budget phones, Vivo just introduced an entry-level model of their own. The new Vivo Y31 shares most of its specification sheet with the recent Redmi 9 series, but can Vivo match Xiaomi in value?

We start with the phone’s internals. The Vivo Y30 Successor has Snapdragon 662 at its heart, powered by a 5000 mAh battery and 18W fast charging. Out of the box, the Android11-based FunTouchOS 11 runs on the device. 6GB of memory does the multi-tasking. And 128GB of expandable storage is shipped with it.

Although it's priced higher than the Redmi 9 phones, the Y31 lacks a wide-angle camera. The camera plate on the back houses three cameras — a 48MP primary unit, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. A 16MP front camera rounds off this setup.

It’s all laid out in Vivo Y31’s signature big eye layout.  The camera app has a dedicated night mode and supports electronic image stabilization. The shell comes in charcoal and ocean blue colors. Its power button doubles as the fingerprint scanner. We also have a reliable 3.5mm headphone jack.

Also note that unlike the Vivo Y20 series, the charging port on Y31 has a USB-C interface. Lastly, the screen has a notch and a hefty chin. It’s a 6.58” LCD, that produces a 1080P resolution.

Vivo Y31 was previously launched in Pakistan as Vivo Y51s with different colors. The new phone starts from $225 (~ Rs. 36,000) —  contrasted against the POCO M3 that is priced at Rs. 25,999.
