Vivo’s custom Android 16 build is almost ready for a stable rollout in China and international markets. The company just confirmed that Origin OS 6 will be unveiled globally on October 15. But first, this new operating system will appear at Vivo’s Developer Conference in China.
Vivo has kept OriginOS and FunTouchOS separate for its Chinese and global users for years. However, lately, several leaks have reported that the company will unify these operating systems into a single firmware. Vivo’s official announcement today confirms that it’s all starting with the Origin OS 6.
The company’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer commented on the new firmware. It appears the new OS provides a smoother and smarter experience than the older UI. Origin OS 6 will be the first outside China. And yes, it will mark the end of the FunTouch firmware on both Vivo and iQoo phones.
Details on the new OriginOS 6 are a bit scarce, but here’s what we’ve been able to scour. Apparently, it prioritizes an intuitive and natural use philosophy by the implementation of something called “Comfort Engineering.” The UI has more depth and spatial order.
The lock screen on the Origin OS 6 has more customization options. There are more clock widgets and a transparent color palette. The real-time ray refractions and light shadows give this user interface a new look on the Vivo's latest flagship models. Vivo shared some images on social media for an early peek at the OS.
Vivo’s Origin OS 16 brings a redesigned control center and better charging animations. The transitions are also smoother when you move across elements. Vivo even worked on the core Android 16 to optimize compute performance and memory usage. Of course, a huge part of the system is new AI features.
The object eraser sees a massive upgrade, and now it also works with live photos. Vivo will also add AI lighting effects to the OS. The Vivo X300 series and iQOO 15 will be the first devices to bring Origin OS 6. We’ll know more about this new firmware when these phones launch. Keep watching the news for updates.
