Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Prototype Gives an Early Peek at the New Design and Folding Mechanism

The next folding phone by Korean manufacturer will not arrive until late August. However, the leaks on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4's successor have started springing in. Dubbed Galaxy Z Fold 5, the new flagship tablet/phone ensues rumors that it might adopt a newly designed hinge, laying two halves of the phone flat on each other with no gap.

That's a big step since Galaxy Folds are notorious for a poorly designed hinge, making the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 significantly fatter than other folds in the market. The new design also holds the potential to eliminate the screen crease. Samsung's appearance at CES Event 2023 has confirmed these rumors.

Samsung showcased the rumored hinge design at the event via Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 prototype. A side-by-side comparison with Z Fold 4 shows how good the new model looks. The inner gap between folds has vanished, making it thinner and flatter.

A Twitter leak showed the illustration of the presumed Fold 5 prototype via an image and Indicated that the latest Z Samsung mobile would be lighter than its precursors. That might be because of the alleged dumbbell hinge by Samsung, designed to eliminate the crease in the display.

While the internet is abuzz with rumors of an S-pen slot inside the Z Fold 5, the prototype leak indicates otherwise. Based on the image, enthusiasts estimate that the new model might be too thin for an S pen slot. But that doesn't necessarily mean that rumors are a hoax.

The prototype was just Samsung's way of showing the new folding mechanism. The end product may differ from the model shown in CES. There's also a good chance that Galaxy Z Fold 5 will use an amplified version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and feature new cameras. These improvements could make it one of the best foldable phones of 2023.
