The Z Fold 7’s body is refined enough to feel like a standard slab phone when folded. Sadly, that’s not the case with Flip 7. It’s still a chunky 13.7mm clamshell when you fold it in half. The good news is that Galaxy Z Flip 8 may reduce the folded thickness by about 30% next year. Here’s everything we know.
A Korean Publication just wrote an exposé on this subject. Samsung obviously wants to establish itself as the leader in the foldable space. They have set a goal to boost the Flip 8 and Fold 8 sales by 10% next year. Apple is already on Samsung’s tail with the iPhone fold.
Samsung has to iron out all the flaws in its current Galaxy Z Flip. So they are pushing the R&D on Galaxy Z Flip 8 to make it thinner and lighter than ever. The report says it could go down to about 9.5mm (folded) thickness.
The Flip 7 is 13.7mm, so you are seeing about a 30% drop in the overall thickness of the latest Samsung Flip model. That’s one of the biggest upgrades on the Z Flip series. Now, they aren’t making this change at the expense of the screen size.
The Flip 8 will stick to its usual 6.9” AMOLED, but it will be much easier to pocket in a thinner form factor. They’ve nearly perfected the recipe for their larger Z Fold models. So, it’s possible the Z Fold 8 keeps the same formula as the older Z Fold 7 model.
Small but meaningful upgrades may be coming to both phones, like brighter screens and refined cameras. These are future products, though. They still have a huge milestone ahead as the company prepares to release the Galaxy TriFold and Galaxy S26 series.
The TriFold was already inaugurated at a Korean tech event, and Samsung demoed this phone to its fans. We even saw a press coverage where the phone was shown hands-on.
