Samsung Galaxy A73 Receives Its Last Major Update: One UI 8 x Android 16

The 2022 Galaxy A73 grabs its last major update. It brought the One UI 4 x Android 12 OS by default. They’ve now updated it to One UI 8. It was only promised four-year OS support. The phone has reached an EOL state. This is everything the final update introduces to the Galaxy A73.

This update has come to Asia before anywhere else. We assume the One UI 8 will hit the Pakistani Galaxy A73 devices sooner than you think. From what we can tell, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and its neighbour, Vietnam, are the only ones to report having seen this update so far.

You should also know that the Galaxy A73 rolled out the firmware version “A736BXXUAGYJ1” with this new update. By the way, the package size is around 2.5GB. But, it’s well worth the data usage because this is a full UI overhaul at the end of the day. There’s an Android 16 bundled in here. They leveled up the security patch to September 2025.

The individual feature upgrades this update has in store are pretty much the same as other Samsung latest 5G models. But just in case anyone unfamiliar with the One UI 8 has stumbled onto our story, there’s a redesigned Quick Share menu on this update and some tweaks to the stock apps.

They redid the Modes and Routines app. Samsung Internet has a new UI. Swiping up or down in the Camera shows or hides the option menu now. Alarms and Calendars have more management options now. The Files app scored some new design tweaks on the home screen. These are the basics.

And just a heads up for the ones switching to this new update, some new animations have also been crammed into its already bloated weather app. At least the A73 has a good enough SoC to keep up with these changes — Qualcomm's Snapdragon 778G.

Just head over to the Settings app on your Galaxy A73 for the update. Find the Software Update section. It will lead you to a “Check for Update” menu. A Changelog shall appear, but only if the update is unlocked in your region. You’ll see a “Download and Install” button to carry out the rest of the process.
