We’re a few weeks away from the official launch of Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy line. But the rumor mill has already uncovered almost every detail relevant to these upcoming Galaxy A phones. The latest in this string of leaks brings us the core spec sheets for the Samsung Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A33, and Galaxy A23.
Samsung isn’t offering any radical upgrades over the previous generation. The design changes are minimal and conservative. The camera and screens are almost all borrowed wholesale from last year. But the headphone jack — a dying breed limited to budget phones these days — is being dropped. Three of the four phones now lack the feature.
The Samsung Galaxy A23 5G is the cheapest in this lineup (and the only one still with a 3.5mm audio jack intact.) It rocks the MediaTek Dimensity 700 — an entry-level 5G chip powered by a 5000 mAh battery and 15W rapid charging. Even though the next-gen version is already out, the phone is preloaded with the Android 11 OS x One UI.
Its screen is a 6.6” 1080P IPS LCD, operating at a 90Hz peak refresh rate. We find a quad-camera system on the back featuring 50MP wide-angle, 8MP ultra-wide-angle, and two 2MP shooters.
Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is a step above the A23. We’ll be looking at a 6.44” 1080P AMOLED here. But it’s capped at a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The cameras are more or less identical, except for the primary camera, which uses a 48MP sensor, and the 5MP macro lens. MediaTek Dimensity 720 is at the heart of this phone. But the battery size, charging support, and onboard OS is shared with the Galaxy A23.
Samsung Galaxy A53 is the true mid-ranger in the series. It was among Samsung’s best-sellers last year. And the phone maker is aiming to recreate that popularity. But instead of Qualcomm silicon, they’re using their homegrown Exynos 1200 chip. It’s powered by a 5000 mAh battery and 25W charging speeds.
The display is a 6.52” 1080P AMOLED, capable of refreshing 120 times every second. Its quad-camera is a cluster of 64MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP portrait, and 5MP macro lenses.
Samsung Galaxy A73 falls into the ‘premium’ mid-range category. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G and a 5000 mAh battery, powered by 25W charging. Its display is a larger 6.7” 120Hz 1080P AMOLED panel. And the camera array is a collection of 108MP primary, 12MP ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto, and 2MP portrait shooters.
