Realme pulled the curtains off the GT 8 series in China today. There are two variants on the hot seat. There’s one with the Pro moniker. And then we have a vanilla Realme GT 8, which they position as a slightly laid-back version. The company used a one-year-old flagship processor for this, not the SD 8 Elite Gen 5. But it’s still easily one of their top performers.
Realme GT 8 Pro is more expensive, so it has its own perks, like the customizable camera island. The standard GT 8 is nothing like that. What you see is what you get, so you may need to choose the design up front, which we believe is sold in white, green, and blue varieties.
Realme GT 8 is built around the 2024 flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which speeds up to about 4.32GHz under full load. That’s top-tier hardware, and still pretty relevant, not to forget that it’s far better than the GT 7 global’s Dimensity 9400e chip.
The chip is more efficient, so even if they did use the same 7000mAh battery as last time, the new Realme GT mobile will last longer. But the customers are not going to appreciate the company dropping the charging speeds from 120W to 100W on this vanilla phone. And they still haven’t added wireless charging here.
There are no compromises on the screen at least, as the vanilla GT 8 bags the same 144Hz LTPO AMOLED as the Pro with HDR support and 2K WQHD+ resolution. This is a 6.79” panel, by the way, which cranks the brightness all the way up to 7000nits (peak). But normally, it will stay under 2000nits.
They copied the iPhone’s liquid glass theme over to the Realme UI 7 (Android 16). Plus, there are four years of Android OS updates here. We had only heard it in rumors before, but Realme did pull off a camera partnership with Ricoh. So you get their proprietary color science and camera tuning on the GT 8.
The camera gear on the GT 8 is a 50MP main and an 8MP ultrawide pair. And the square module below is your periscope OIS telephoto that zooms 3.5X on a 50MP sensor. The selfie snapper is a 16MP outsole. The WiFi card is version 7, and the fingerprint ID is ultrasonic. The basic Realme GT 8, with 256GB storage and 12GB RAM, will run the buyers at least CNY 2,899 (~PKR 115,000).
