iPhone 17 series is coming soon, and a viral image all but confirms the camera island redesign on the Pro models. A leaker on X found a real iPhone 17 Pro (likely a prototype unit) undergoing stress test at one of the factories. The horizontal camera platform with huge lenses is set in stone at this point, as you can see in the photo.
This spy shot should clear whatever little doubt you have left about the iPhone 17 Pro redesign. That’s good news or bad news, depending on your philosophical bend. Apple was stuck in a loop for years, recycling the same boring appearance on its iPhones for the past six generations.
On the one hand, it’s good to see some cosmetic changes on the way, but on the other, the new design isn’t much of an improvement. In the CG renders, the design looks somewhat acceptable, though a first-hand look at the iPhone 17 Pro shows how inelegant it feels.
Ignoring the cracks on the latest iPhone Pro model, probably caused by the prototype stress and drop testing, the lenses sit unevenly on the camera bar. And it isn’t helped by the massive blank space in the midsection and the LIDAR + LED combo on the left edge.
Apple has a habit of defying expectations, so we wait for the phone’s official launch in September to give you our final thoughts about its design. There’s good news for the spec warriors among you, as Apple intends to modify the entire batch of new iPhones with upgraded hardware.
This time, we’ll see a 120Hz refresh rate on all iPhone 17 models. This is true for the vanilla, Air, and Pro devices, which are about to be released next month. However, fans should expect the iPhone 17e to maintain the status quo and use the standard 60Hz display until further notice.
Some RAM upgrades are also possible. Each iPhone 17 model will secure at least 12GB of memory, except for the basic version, which is stuck with last year’s 8GB RAM. Invitations for the launch event are yet to go out. We’ll soon know the time and place for the series debut. So, keep watching the news for updates.
