Huawei Nova 8 Featured in Hands-on Photos; Reveal the Spec Sheet and Design

Huawei recently shared the launch timeline for its premium mid-range Nova 8 series. It’s making its debut on December 23. Ahead of the event, however, the Huawei Nova 8 pro was leaked when a phone leaker published its alleged specs. And today, the Nova 8 was seen in the flesh from multiple angles — leaving little to the imagination for the upcoming launch.

Featured in a series of hand-on photos, the Huawei Nova 8 has the oval camera bump that was also teased earlier. It holds four cameras and an LED flash. The back has a glossy, metallic finish to it seen here in sea green — also available in purple and black colors.

Out on the front, the display curves around the edges. It’s a 6.67” OLED panel with an intrusive, dead center hole-punch cutout.

The photos also show the spec sheet for the Huawei latest model Nova 8 pulled up on the screen. And sure enough, it has the flagship Kirin 985 5G chipset, just as the phone leaker DigitalChatStation reported. The chip, which came out earlier in April this year, is only outperformed by Huawei’s top-of-the-line Kirin 990. You’ll find the same processor inside the Nova 8 Pro.

It’s unclear whether the chipmaker is TSMC (which only recently reacquired the license to do business with Huawei) or the Chinese SMIC. A slightly-underpowered 3700 mAh battery with 66W fast charging powers the phone — the blazing technology should fully charge the Nova 8 in under half an hour.

Nova 8 lineup competes with Vivo’s V20 and Oppo’s Reno 5 series, so its design is front and center. The phone weighs only 169g and has a slim 7.6mm profile. The memory onboard is 8GB, and storage comes in 128GB/256GB options. It’s expected to start from CNY 3,000 (~ Rs. 73,500).
