Apple iPhone 17 Tipped Again to Feature Larger OLED and Better Selfie Camera

This year, Apple’s iPhone 17 might get a bigger display than its predecessor, the iPhone 16. We’ve been hearing this rumor a lot on the internet, but it has never been substantiated by a credible source before. Digital Chat Station now reports the same thing, which leads us to believe that those rumors might be true after all.

Digital Chat Station posted this leak on Weibo, as usual. He seems to believe that the iPhone 17 gets a 6.3” display size, which would be a noticeable improvement in the screen real estate. And, this will align the base iPhone with the regular Pro model once again.

The iPhone 16 Pro last year was also bumped to a 6.3” size from a dated 6.1” compact standard. Its sibling, the 16 Pro Max, got updated to a 6.9” display from the previous 6.7” size. From the looks of it, these changes were well received, and now Apple is raising the bar for its vanilla iPhone 17.

The same thing was confirmed by Ross Young, the CEO of Counterpoint Research, whose leaks mostly revolve around Apple. He also believes that a 6.3” OLED display is imminent for the iPhone 17, as does the Digital Chat Station.

Both sources have a great track record with Apple-related predictions. Unless Apple says otherwise, we believe these details to be accurate. The internet also gave away the display specs of the Apple latest iPhone models, the Pro, the Pro Max, and the new Air model that’s joining the crew this year.

The iPhone 17 and 17 Pro might have similar dimensions, as far as the screen goes. The iPhone 17 Air will step it up to a 6.6” screen, and the Pro Max seems will score the biggest display size of all at 6.9 inches. There’s one more change coming to the base iPhone 17 — a 24MP selfie camera, upgraded from the traditional 12MP sensor.

This will be the first time a base iPhone gets a 120Hz OLED screen. It’s not the ProMotion display we were hoping for on the iPhone 17 since it lacks a variable refresh rate, but a 120Hz refresh is still a lot better than the outmoded 60Hz standard of the previous iPhones. We now wait for the rumor mill to confirm the rest of its specifications. So stay tuned for more updates.
