Xiaomi has skipped over the Redmi Note 16 label for its next phones. Those devices are actually titled Redmi Note 17 this year. They did the exact same thing with the Xiaomi 17 series, all to keep up with the currently outgoing iPhones. We saw a certification for the basic Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 today. This is what we learned.
This GSMA IMEI listing was all the proof we needed to confirm the name change, since this is the closest thing to an official announcement right now. Redmi Note 17 can be seen in the file. We believe they’ve skipped the number 16 for a reason.
It has been suggested that Xiaomi wants to reorganize the product names, so the Note 17 lineup will match the flagship Xiaomi 17 family. At least, from here on out, we would only need names to know which generation the device belongs to. And simplifying things always helps with the sales.
Anyway, there’s a code assigned to the Redmi Note 17 in the certification (26012RN62). There are possibly three variants of this handset. We assume they split by region, which is usually the case. And you’d be able to tell which market the phones belong to by the letters slapped at the end.
No Chinese model number showed up today, by the way. Maybe we’ll see that in the subsequent certifications. China will be the first, anyway, to welcome the Note 17 series. There’s no doubting it. We’ve also come to learn that the Redmi Note 17 is not a 5G handset.
There are barely any high-end 4G chips left in the world. And the development has been too slow. The Note 17 is built around 4G, so we don’t see any reason to expect midrange performance out of it. This is probably just an entry-level performer at best.
The Note 17 didn’t have any leaks so far, so the spec sheet is blank right now. Redmi Note 17 Pro Max has been leaking, though. They say it could use a 7” screen. And the battery would hit 10,000mAh. The main camera would be a 200MP outsole. These are all ridiculous numbers. We can’t wait to know more about this series. Keep watching the news for updates.
