Xiaomi is unveiling its first smartphone with under-display camera technology on August 10. The upcoming Mi MIX 4 features an edge-to-edge screen without any notches or holes. But, as WhatMobile previously speculated, the Mi MIX 4 will not be available outside China. Yesterday, a Xiaomi official confirmed just that.

In response to a tweet requesting launch details, Agatha Tang, Xiaomi’s Product PR, noted that the brand has no plans for a global Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 release.

For our readers out of the loop, the still-recent Mi MIX Fold was also limited to a local launch. So this announcement doesn’t come as a surprise. That said, Gizmochina reports that the Mi MIX 4 could tour internationally. Xiaomi promoted the Mi MIX Alpha concept phone similarly.

Optimal pixel density is one of the biggest engineering hurdles in the way of mainstream under-display camera tech. To allow enough light to pass, the pixel density above the camera sensor has to be compromised.

OPPO and ZTE have designed creative pixel grid solutions to sidestep the problem. But the renowned phone leaker IceUniverse reports that the pixel arrangement inside the new Xiaomi Mobile mobile for 2021 is the most advanced under-display technology yet.

Its novel display isn’t the only highlight of the Mi MIX 4. The phone is a flagship, powered by top-shelf Qualcomm silicon, next-gen 120W wired charging, and the latest MIUI 12.5.
