Xiaomi Mi 11 Debuts With Snapdragon 888, Charging Brick Removed From The Retail Box

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 11 at a launch event in China yesterday, where Qualcomm's latest 5nm Snapdragon 888 made its debut. Here's what the earliest 2021 flagship brings.

First things first — The company isn’t shipping the Xiaomi Mi 11 with a charger. The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, has confirmed the missing feature. To explain why we’ll have to wind the clock back to 2016 when Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7. And replaced it with their wireless AirPods.

Other brands quickly followed in Apple’s footsteps, and now every major phone-maker has its own line of wireless earphones, and the 3.5mm jack is rarely seen in modern flagships.

With the Mi 11, Xiaomi is following Apple, after the American tech giant removed the charging brick from their iPhone 12 retail box. Samsung is reportedly leaving out the charger in their next flagship release as well. And you can expect other smartphone brands to do the same. So while the Mi 11’s 4600 mAh battery fast charges over 55W ( a full charge promised in under 45 minutes), you’ll have to shell out extra bucks to get the 55W charging brick.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 screen gets the most upgrades. Gorilla Glass Victus, the toughest Gorilla Glass yet, encases the phone. Underneath it lies a giant 6.81” curved display. You're looking at a standard OLED panel capable of producing a 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a touch sampling rate that reaches 480Hz. It peaks at 1500 nits. Plus, it features 10-bit color and HDR10+ support. These specs should translate nicely into a fluid, responsive, and true-to-life visual experience.

On the back rests a three-camera system, powered by standard, ultra-wide, macro cameras. The primary unit has a large 1/1.33” 108MP sensor behind an f/1.85 lens, with a 7P element for correcting distortion. The Mi 11 supports optical image stabilization and produces a respectable 1.6μm single-pixel output. With the 13MP ultra-wide, its field-of-view extends to 123˚.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 comes with 8GB/12GB of high-performance memory and 128GB/256GB of fast storage. And it starts from CNY 3999 (~ Rs. 98,000).
