Tecno Spark 8C Debuts with a Bold Design, 90Hz Screen, and Entry-level Specs

Tecno just dropped a new budget-friendly Spark phone in Africa. The Spark 8C features entry-level specs, a striking and polarizing design, and a powerful battery. It has already been announced in Nigeria, but it won't hit store shelves until February. So the pricing remains a mystery for now.

The most eye-catching aspect of the Tecno Spark 8C is its bold design. It's crafted from plastic (no surprises there) and features a colossal camera hump on the back, stretching over halfway across the phone's width.

The island is used to house a camera, LED flash, and an instant fingerprint scanner. A racing stripe running next to the camera has 'STOP AT NOTHING' engraved in giant lettering. It comes in Turquoise Cyan, Magnet Black, Iris Purple, Diamond Grey. Turn the phone over to meet its notch screen.

We're looking at a 6.6" IPS LCD with an underwhelming 720P resolution. But the refresh rate on the fully specced out variant peaks at a smooth 90Hz. The baseline edition doesn't support the feature. The camera embedded in the cutout of the new budget Tecno mobile is 8MP, joined by a front-facing LED flash. On the back, we have a 13MP f/1.8 shooter. The Spark 8C can shoot in AI-assisted and HDR modes. However, no night mode is offered.

Everything runs on an obscure, low-performance Unisoc chip. The 5000 mAh battery promises all-day use. You can pick from 2GB and 3GB memory options.

Both are paired with 64GB of expandable internal storage. In addition, software acceleration makes for a better multitasking experience. Furthermore, NFC support is available based on region. HiOS x Android11 powers the Spark 8C.
