Mere hours are left till the next Galaxy Unpacked. It’s happening in London on July 22nd. Of course, there will be a live stream at around 6 PM Pakistani time. This is the launch event for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 duo and the Z Flip 8. We came across a last-minute report that reveals exactly what to expect from these three devices.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8
A live video of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 was found in the wild, in the hands of BTS’ Jung Ho-seok. There are two cameras on the back and an oddly wide body, which is clearly the new folding handset they’ve been working on. This will debut at Unpacked.
Samsung hasn’t really shared any of its specs yet. But the past leaks were a big help. This new Z Fold 8 has the potential to be a big hit. Samsung is betting on it, in fact. They allocated more production to the Z Fold 8 than the Ultra and Flip siblings.
2.8 million units have been ordered for early production of the basic Z Fold 8. Only 2 million Z Fold 8 Ultras are being ordered, and the Flip 8 sits at 1.5 million. Last year was the first time that a Fold outsold a Flip phone. That’s why the Fold 8s have been ordered in higher quantities.
We know from leaks that the Z Fold 8 is built around a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It will probably have a diagonal 5.5” cover screen, and the display inside could be 7.6” at a 4:3 ratio. 50MP main and 50MP ultrawide cameras are put on the back, and two 10MP selfies will be found on the screens.
The thickness of this handset will be as low as 4.5mm flat (opened). 201g is the possible weight. IP48 rating is also coming. They say the Wide Z Fold 8 can do 26 hours of video playback per charge. 4800mAh is the reported battery size. Its potential Korean price will be KRW 2,278,000 ($1,499) (~PKR 417,000).
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
This will be the more premium model, though Samsung may have lost confidence in this device and made the wide foldable their first priority. And yes, this will be a more expensive and more muscular version of the two. They’ll put three cameras on the Fold 8 Ultra.
The Ultra is actually the direct successor to the Z Fold 7, so it makes sense that it has a 200MP main camera and a 10MP 3x telephoto. The ultrawide shooter is 50MP, and the dual selfie snappers are 10MP each. This is the taller version, and it obviously has more screen real estate.
They may put a 6.5” cover screen on the Z Fold 8 Ultra. The exact size of the inner screen hasn’t come up in any leak, but the resolution is presumed to be 2256 x 2504px, which is a little sharper than the 1968 x 2184px screen of the Z Fold 7. Of course, this newcomer will also have Android 17 x One UI 9.
The size is larger, so obviously it will weigh more. They did trim its thickness down to 4.1mm (unfolded), so that’s something. And let’s not forget that a bigger battery is used on the Ultra this year: a 5000mAh cell rated for 1200 cycles. The Wide and Ultra have the same 45W charging, though. KRW 2,577,000 ($1,685) (~PKR 468,800) could be the Ultra’s MSRP in its hometown.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8
When the Fold 7 outsold the Flip 7 last year, the equation changed. Now it’s believed that the Z Flip 8 will be the last of its kind and Samsung will stop making the Flip versions after that, though it all comes down to the simple Z Fold 8’s success.
Anyway, the Z Flip 8 will knock down the weight to just 180 grams, and it will be 6.1mm thin. There’s no battery upgrade: it will keep the 4300mAh cell, exactly as it was on the Z Flip 7. Only some regions will get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 version, but most of you will be stuck with Exynos 2600.
There are no camera upgrades to speak of either, because the Flip 8 is going to reuse its 50MP main and 12MP ultrawide sensors. No changes are made to screen sizes either. They want to sell the Flip 8 for KRW 1,683,000 ($1,099) (~PKR 305,000) in South Korea.
