Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra May Ship Without the Dedicated S Pen Slot

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra lost the S-Pen Bluetooth functionality this year, and it’s only going to get worse from here on out. The controversial move hurt loyal fans, but it also served as a warning that the S Pen is no longer a priority for the Galaxy Ultra devices.

We are seeing new reports on the web saying that the Galaxy S27 Ultra, in the year after next, will pull the plug on the dedicated S Pen slot. If that happens, the S Pen will simply become an afterthought, even if the device continues to support it through its digitizer screen.

The dedicated S Pen slot and the S Pen itself were the highlights for all Galaxy Note devices back in the day. Both were later moved to the S series when Samsung merged its twin flagship lineups. The S Ultra phones continue to support the S Pen silo to this day and only lost the Bluetooth functions recently.

The original leak came from an X user @Jukanlosreve, who has a knack for accurately predicting details regarding Galaxy devices. He thinks that the built-in S Pen won’t be included with the Samsung Ultra new model. The leaker cites the removal of S Pen support for the Z Fold 7 as evidence.

It has been a few generations since the Z Fold series started using digitizer screens to bring back the active stylus support. It has a far better use on a folding device than it does on a slab phone. Still, the Z Folds never had a dedicated slot to begin with, and Samsung encouraged the buyers to purchase a case to store the Pen.

If the S Pen slot is taken out of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Samsung might push users to buy a case to store their S Pen. Also, there’s a chance that the S Pen and its case will be sold separately, which has the potential to create an additional stream of income for the company.

Since Samsung is pushing for thinner and thinner devices as of late, we can’t help but suspect an inevitable end to the dedicated S Pen slot. Only time will tell how accurate the leaker’s predictions are. In the meantime, stay tuned for Samsung’s Unpacked event on 9th July, unveiling some new folding devices and the next-gen Smartwatches.
