Xiaomi officially unveiled their brand-new Redmi 10 series yesterday. Redmi 10, the base entry-level model, is the first to debut, and more editions should soon follow. The announcement was made with the same press release that was prematurely published this week, so the details come as little surprise.
With the Redmi 9 series last year, Xiaomi set a new standard for entry-level phones — 1080P screens, high-performance chips, and fast charging. The Redmi 10 builds on that premise and brings more upgrades from the mid-range section to the entry-level segment. We'll review what this latest Redmi has to offer.
Redmi 10 features the most high-end display in this lineup yet. We're looking at a 6.5" O-hole IPS LCD. It delivers a crisp 1080P resolution and refreshes at a smooth 90Hz (also auto switches to 60Hz and 45Hz to save power.) Reading Mode 3.0 filters out harmful blue light. And Gorilla Glass 3 toughens it.
Redmi 10 is the first phone to run on MediaTek Helio G88, specifically designed to drive high refresh displays. The setup is powered by a 5000 mAh battery, 18W charging support, and 9W reverse charging. Xiaomi ships the phone with a 22.5W power brick and MIUI 12.5, based on Android11.
The shell is painted in holographic Sea Blue, Carbon Gray, and Pebble White finishes. Xiaomi has chamfered the frame and curved the backplate. A cluster of four cameras is housed inside an oversized, protruding hump. Redmi 10 uses an array of 50MP f/1.8 wide, 8MP ultra-wide, and two 2MP macro and depth cameras.
You get 4GB/6GB of memory and 64GB/128GB of low-end eMMC storage, expandable via a microSD card. Redmi 10 includes a 3.5mm audio jack, dual stereo speakers for surround sound (another feature ported over from higher-end phones), a USB-C interface, and a side-facing thumbprint reader. The base edition starts from MYR 650 (~ Rs. 25,000.)
