OPPO A98 in Works, Could be the Next Budget Smartphone in Disguise

In his Weibo post, renowned tipster Digital Chat Station claims to have discovered a new Oppo A series smartphone. Based on DCS's alleged specs, the new OPPO A96 4G successor could be the catalog's highest-performing smartphone. It's rather unusual for the Chinese manufacturer to grace an A-line phone with upper Mid-tier specs.

The tipster has an admirable track record with leaks, so there's no reason to doubt his claims. Though the post doesn't explicitly give away a name, speculations point to the smartphone dubbed OPPO A98. Here's a brief of what we have gathered so far.

According to DCS, the new phone, AKA OPPO A98, could debut as the catalog's first-ever curved-display smartphone. The phone will have traditional camera housing (punch-hole) and a 120Hz screen with a solid FHD+ resolution.

Where the latest Redmi phones have infected the industry with trends like PWM dimming, The new OPPO A mobile plans to take part as the first-ever phone with 2160Hz highest-frequency PWM — the number translates to lesser eye strain while watching the screen in low brightness.

DCS furthers that the chin of the A98 by OPPO will clock in at 2.3mm, translating to the highest screen-to-body. In one of his latest posts, the tipster also denuded A98's core, which he claims is SM7325. The number belongs to Qualcomm's dated-yet-powerful Snapdragon 778G chip. The memory configurations are still a mystery.

The phone supposedly uses a 108MP sensor under the primary lens for optics. Same as memory combos, there is no mention of the phone's selfie and auxiliary cameras anywhere on the web. The tipster did give some information regarding the battery capacity and charging speed, which he believes is 5000mAh, backed by 67 Watts. A launch date or price for the OPPO A98 isn't available yet.
