Oppo A53 2020 Debuts with Snapdragon 460, Features a Smooth 90Hz Display & a 5,000mAh Battery

Qualcomm introduced the new budget-gaming platform, the Snapdragon 460 earlier this, but it’s only making its debut now — featured in the upcoming Oppo A53 2020. Following a brief leak, the A53 2020 launched in Indonesia yesterday. The sequel to this year’s Oppo A52 is the spitting image of its predecessor, down to its design language and layout.

That being said, the Oppo A53 isn’t exactly a big upgrade. The screen is once again single hole-punched, except the resolution has been cut back to HD+ and the chin size has grown while the panel itself is 6.5”. Oppo has, however, bumped the refresh rate to 90Hz.

The Oppo A53 2020's shell is polycarbonate, but polished and embossed enough to be mistaken for glass. It’s painted in Electric Black and Fancy Blue — solid gradients with highlights.

In a corner, lives a jet-black camera island with three cameras stacked on top of each other — yet another downgrade from the quad-camera the A52 had. Next to it, a fingerprint scanner rests in the middle.

Inside the Oppo A53's Camera array, there’s a 12MP main camera, but the ultra-wide lens is gone, leaving the phone with depth-assist and macro sensors. The front-facing camera still has the 16MP lens behind it.

Much like its Snapdragon 665 mobile platform, the A52 also had up to 8GB of memory and 128GB of internal storage. The running theme extends to the internals as the A53 2020 is only available in a 4GB/64GB edition — expandable up to 256GB with a microSD card. It does inherit the 5,000 mAh battery, supported by 18W fast charging. The A53 2020 is available for pre-orders in Indonesia, starting from $169 (28,000 PKR) and should land in other Asian markets, including Pakistan, in the coming weeks.
