Oppo A53s is Debuting Globally Next Week; Launch Timeline, Features, and Pricing

The Oppo A55 is a new budget 5G phone which recently debuted in China. Oppo is now rolling it out to a global audience as Oppo A53s 5G, starting with the Indian market. From the microsite and promos already published, the A53s is slated for its global launch on April 27.

As seen in the promos, the Oppo A53s is not a refreshed or revised A55 but simply a renamed product. More often than not, Oppo phones — even the budget ones — offered ambitious, imaginative designs, but as of late, their looks have plateaued.

For the A53s, we’re looking at a generic, curved body and a square camera island build. There’s a notch bleeding into the top of the screen and a prominent chin on the opposite side. Three lenses are arranged in a single file inside the camera plate. Plus, its power button doubles as a thumbprint reader. You can pick the plastic back finish in Bronze, Black, and Blue options.

The spec sheet of the new Oppo mobile follows in a similar vein. The A53s 5G features an unremarkable 6.5” IPS LCD that delivers a 720P resolution and peaks at 480 nits of brightness. The front camera tucked inside the notch has a modest f/2.0 lens and 8MP sensor. For its rear cameras, the A53s uses a 13MP wide camera, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP portrait sensor.

Under its hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 — an entry-level 5G chip based on a 7nm process —  powers the A53s. It’s paired with 4GB/6GB of memory and 128GB of storage, expandable up to a terabyte thanks to the microSD card slot.

The whole setup runs on the ColorOS 11 (powered by Android11) and a 5000 mAh battery that lacks any support for fast charging. The pricing won’t be revealed until the launch event, but it could be priced under $200 (~ Rs. 30,000.)
